Whilst working in PR it goes without saying that you will meet lots of people, especially journalists. If you’re not a confident person or don’t like talking to strangers, then PR is a great way to build your confidence and break through your comfort zone. We are encouraged to meet as many journalists as possible, to build a network of trusted people we can contact when securing coverage. It’s a great chance to get to know them, what they‘re working on, future features and their preferences when receiving samples (it’s also a great chance to grab a coffee and cake!). Usually when someone from the team visits someone, we will make sure they have samples and press releases for all our clients in their bag, so we can pitch in to fit to whatever the journalist is working on. Recently one member of our PR team spent the day with the skincare expert from Rhodes to Heaven visiting the different publication houses in London – as Rhodes to Heaven is skincare, it’d a great chance to sit with the journalists to talk through the products, ingredients and the show them how it’s used by doing some demos. We find that this is a really successful way of securing coverage and we get to meet lots of great people along the way! As well as doing product mailings and phone calls, meeting journalists is a lovely and fun way to promote your brand.
